Select the types of files scanned, the extent of the scan, and the extent of information displayed in the Results Window during the scan in this dialog.
'Display in List' controls the type of information shown in the Results Window during and after a scan.
'Type of Scan' controls what SAM Virus Clinic looks for when examining your files.
'Scope of Scan' controls the types of files Virus Clinic scans - executable files only or all files. Quick Scan is faster than Full Scan.
'ALL examined files' causes every file examined during a scan to appear in the Results Window - that is, even files that do not contain irregularities are listed.
'Irregular files ONLY' means that only those files containing known viruses or other irregularites appear in the Results Window during a scan. This is the recommended choice over ALL examined files.
'Use checksums' calculates values to determine if a file's code has changed since the previous checksum. This option creates an invisible Checksum Log on each scanned volume.
'Use filters' causes Virus Clinic to check each irregularity it finds against a built-in list of common irregularities. If a match is found, SAM Virus Clinic does not report the irregularity.
'Complete check' tells SAM Virus Clinic to examine files for known viruses, their clones, and any irregularities.
'Infections ONLY' tells SAM Virus Clinic to examine files for known viruses, virus clones, and virus-like resources. SAM Virus Clinic does not check for irregularities.
'Full scan' examines all resource and data files that could become infected. This is slower than 'Quick scan' but is more thorough. Full scan is the recommended setting.
'Quick scan' examines only executable files (that is, application files and startup documents) for viruses. This is faster but not as thorough as 'Full scan'.
